10 thoughts on the nfl draft:

1. on my way home from oki's house after a (winning) night of poker, the thought of aaron rodgers falling to green bay at the 24th pick crossed my mind. while i was driving, i actually thought to myself, "hmm, if he does fall that far, which he is projected to by some people, then i think they would take him." so i just want to gloat that i did forsee aaron rodgers going to green bay.

2. the colts drafting marlin jackson seems like a real good pick to me. sure there were other pressing needs such as linebacker and defensive tackle, but a defensive back was a pretty pressing need too when you consider how many times the various defensive backs were injured. and the fact that marlin jackson can also play safety is nice too.

3. but who the hell is kelvin hayden?

4. the colts drafted a couple of pass rushing defensive ends which i guess means that raheem brock is going to move inside to defensive tackle from left end. i don't know if that's good or what, but i still think the colts could use a big run-stuffing, two gap eating, double team taking, nose tackle-type player.

5. the colts drafting of OLB tyjuan hagler and then bill polian saying that he's going to be starting his career in the middle, to me, signifies that they're going to resign rob morris sometime soon to a 1-3 year contract with the understanding that he'll probably be cut after two seasons if it's a three year contract.

6. maurice clarrett in the third round to the broncos? i don't know that it's as bad a pick as people make it seem. sure they have a crowded backfield, but clarrett is a good player. and especially in that system, he could be offensive rookie of the year. because it's certainly not going to be...

7. mike williams. as the tenth pick in the draft to detroit, i also don't see this as such a bad idea. sure they had other needs, but this was a great value pick. imagine this: mike williams, roy williams, charles rodgers, kevin jones and marcus pollard all on the field at the same time. it doesn't matter that it's joey harrington under center. this was a good pick in my opinion. unlike...

8. matt jones at 21 to the jaguars. what the fuck? i know he was a freaking monster at the combine and he's got nearly unlimited potential, but that seems like a reach to me, and i'm pretty damn forgiving of where people get drafted (just look at what i said of clarrett and williams).

9. speaking of the jaguars... they also drafted chad owens in the 6th round. it's kind of sad that he fell that far, but at least he got drafted. i just wish he were drafted by san diego or san francisco. basically a team not in the afc south or the patriots. but oh well, at least he's getting a shot and guarnteed money.

10. timmy chang and abe elemimian not getting drafted is also sad. there was hope that t.c. could've been mr. irrelevant since it was the patriots and they're known for odd draft picks. then again, their mr. irrelevant pick was pretty weird in itself (another TE?). and i guess elemimian ran himself out of the draft at the combine.

and just some random notes on poker night:

1. oki got a royal flush. i have pictures of it on my phone. i doubt we'll ever see that again. but it's also not the first royal flush i've seen. i once got one playing 5-card. the chances of getting a royal flush are like 1:250,000 or 250,000:1... whatever. i'm bad with numbers.

2. i ended the night up money. but only because oki gave me the last hand of the night on an all in. he knew i beat him but he felt bad for always taking me out on the last hand of the night for three of the last four weeks plus he owed me and justin money from last week.
